Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are the rules for using Word Chains at word-chains.com (the "Site"). By playing a puzzle or otherwise using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

Word Chains is free to play for personal, non-commercial entertainment. When using the Site, you agree not to:

• Use bots, scrapers, or other automated tools to access the Site or collect its puzzles or answers.
• Interfere with, overload, or try to break the Site, its servers, or its security.
• Attempt to reverse engineer, copy, or resell the game or its puzzle library.
• Use the Site for anything illegal or in a way that harms other players.

We may restrict or block access for anyone who breaks these rules. You do not need an account to play, and your game progress is stored only in your own browser. Anything you choose to submit, such as a community chain or a leaderboard score, is covered in section 4.

Puzzles, word pairs, phrase definitions, and daily recaps are provided for fun. We work hard to make sure every link in a chain is a real, recognizable phrase, but language is flexible and we cannot promise that every puzzle, answer, or definition will be perfect or to everyone's taste. If you spot a mistake, please let us know.

We may add, change, or remove puzzles, game modes, and features at any time, and the Site may occasionally be unavailable for maintenance or for reasons outside our control.

You can submit your own chains and add Endless scores to a public leaderboard under a display name. When you do, you agree that:

• Your chain and display name contain nothing hateful, sexual, harassing, or illegal, and no personal information about you or anyone else.
• Your scores come from your own play, without cheating, scripts, or tampering with the game.
• You give Word Chains a free, non-exclusive, worldwide permission to display, share, and adapt what you submit on the Site and in our promotions, credited to your display name where we show it.

Every chain is reviewed before it is published. We may decline, edit the difficulty of, or remove any chain, and remove any score or display name, at our discretion and without notice. To ask us to take something down, please contact us.

The Word Chains name, logo, design, code, puzzles, and written content on the Site are owned by Word Chains and protected by copyright and other laws. You are welcome to share links to the Site, talk about puzzles, and post your own results. You may not copy, republish, or redistribute our puzzles, puzzle archive, or site content in bulk, or use our name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse you, without written permission.

Individual English words and common phrases belong to everyone; what we claim is our particular selection and arrangement of them into puzzles, along with our original writing.

The Site is supported by advertising, including ads served by Google AdSense, and may link to other websites. We are not responsible for the content, products, or practices of advertisers or third-party sites. How we and our partners use cookies is explained in our Privacy Policy.

The Site is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent allowed by law, we make no promises or warranties of any kind, express or implied, including that the Site will be error-free, secure, uninterrupted, or fit for any particular purpose.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Word Chains and the people who make it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, streaks, or progress, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Site. Because the Site is free, our total liability for any claim related to the Site is limited to zero dollars ($0), except where the law does not allow such a limit.

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the "Last updated" date above. If you keep using the Site after an update, that means you accept the revised Terms.
